The security safety guidelines outline common best practices for operating in the Security industry for safety. This is a good resource for both employers and employees to help understand some common best practice safety principles.
Duty of Care
Both you and your Employer have a duty of care about health and safety matters which are reasonably under their own control, this includes a primary contract holder who hires and manages contractors (or sub-contractors).
This means that while you have the most immediate and final say over your own personal safety, most of the ability to enact workplace change sits with the Employer(s) and Manager(s). Because of this, it is important to understand the best practices within the industry and if something does not feel safe about your Worksite, consult with your Occupational Health and Safety Representative (OH&S Rep), your Employer or Manager and especially with your Union.
